For Summer 2011, Chanel created a brand new make-up line, and they made sure the entire world of style would be well shaken and not just stirred. To promote the new collection, Peter Philips, creative director for Chanel's make-up, honoured his title with the greatest of ease by sending into the world one of the most creative advertising video's you'll ever have seen.
In the video we can see how the entire collection graciously falls together into dangerously hip, well... Chanel-creatures. Ranging from Chanel-robots with flasks of eye-shadow for eyes and tubes of nail polish for arms, who shoot themselves into the sky with flames that have the same burning red colour of the characteristic Chanel lipstick, over a shiny black spider with tubes of lipgloss for legs to a playfull fashionista who, frankly, shows a lot of resemblence to Miss Coco Chanel herself with her eye-pencil hat and powderbrush-skirt. In a true Vogue-manner, she smokes a cigarette, which has -what else?- Chanellogo's for smoke and playfully tilts her powdercase-head to the camera's. C'est très Chanel, quoi.
Peter Philips, however, is no new name within the Chanel-circuit. The creative wonder, who was originally born and raised in Antwerp (not coincidentially located in the same country as the one your's truly resides in), was nominated as Chanel's new creative director in 2008, and ever since he has performed nothing less than miraculous masterpieces.
Funny detail to Philips' story is that he originally started studying at the Antwerp Fashion University to become a fashion designer. It didn't take long, though, till he felt he wasn't quite suited for the designing industry. Luckily for us and every other Chanel-adoring fashionista in this universe, he discovered just as quickly what, in fact, wàs his true calling, and now he can proudly call himself the creator of the video that will, sans doute, keep the Parisian beau-monde in a Chanel-trance for months to come.
